Mavericks Set to Compete in NCAA Division II Super Region 3 Tournament

EDMOND, Okla. — The Minnesota State wrestling team will take part in the two-day NCAA Division II Super Region 3 Tournament beginning Friday. The tournament, which will conclude on Saturday, will be hosted by Central Oklahoma at the Hamilton Field House in Edmond, Okla.

MSU will send 10 grapplers to the tournament including Trevor Schultz (Fr., 125 lbs.), Tanner Mills (Fr., 133 lbs.), Alphonso Vruno (So., 141 lbs.), Weston Droegemueller (Fr., 149 lbs.), Adam Cooling (Fr., 157 lbs.), Darick Vancura (Fr., 165 lbs.), Brendan Eichmann (Sr., 174 lbs.), Scott VanDeLoo (So., 184 lbs.), Chris Zimmer (Fr., 197 lbs.) and Corby Running (Sr., 285 lbs.).

The Mavericks finished their regular season with a 28-11 win at Northern State. Running received NSIC Wrestler of the Week honors with a 27 second pinfall.

Should any Maverick finish in the top-five of his weight class at the NCAA Division II Super Region 3 Tournament, they will advance to the NCAA Championships in Cleveland, Ohio. The NCAA Championships will take place on March 14-15.
